July 1st Weekend

Well, we're into the long weekend....hard to believe school is out and the frenzy of packing and getting out to the perfect campsite has had many families frantic to get a start to the Summer break. I know it is that way for many families here, since there isn't much else to do besides camping/boating. So, I can't help but wonder what affect this morning's down pour has on those out there camping....particularly those in tents?? Hmmmm.
Sunshine is forecast for the rest of the weekend, so don't bring out the duck feet yet :P

More storms.....

It's hard to imagine that these thunder storms can go on for hours.....well, they did last evening/night!! And the! Now, I'm in awe of thunder storms but they are affecting my husband's ability to go out to work. Yes, he left bright and early but on trying to get into the dirt road leading to the Oil lease he's working at, he found trucks that had rode the mud and skidded this way and that. A big tanker truck thought that stopping and putting on chains was not necessary, found itself sideways and now waiting for a Cat to pull it out. Now, hubby isn't complaining mind you....he gets a full day pay cuz the Consultant wasn't on the ball to call the job off today....bonus! It'll take a few days to dry off.
So, he's home for the July 1st long weekend....yay! But we have no plans to go camping.....too wet :)

Thunder Storm

We had a big, crackling, booming thunder storm last night. I LOVE thunder storms! The sky seems to drop lower, with dark clouds settling in and the air becomes energized. I stand out on the porch and just watch as Mother Nature has a hissy-fit. Somehow I can relate to her display of anger and frustration and finally the tears that come pouring down. When it's all over the earth feels cleansed again. It's her most spectacular show of power, unlike tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, volcano eruptions....thunder storms cleanse and bring newness while all those other sides of her bring destruction and grief. Can you relate to her?

Summer night in the Cul-de-Sac

Last evening we had my brother and sis-in-law over. What fun to be able to sit outside and visit. We get the afternoon shade on the side of the house our doors are on so by mid-aft it's a lot cooler on that side. There was a bit of a cool breeze but it was the perfect evening to just enjoy. We don't have a deck built yet (last summer was our first and we only got the turf laid) and will wait until next spring to start on that. In the meantime I've put out planters of flowers and we sit on lawn chairs and swing.
So, now that school is out for summer break, I'm noticing more parents, kids and us "older" folk staying out longer to drink in summer evenings. As the sun starts going down our neighborhood lights up with the soft glow of moon lights, candle light, lanterns and torches. Now where did we put that mosquito zapper???
