"Always in our Hearts"

Tooth Fairy

In a magical land called Fairytopia, where Tooth Fairies dwell, one very beautiful Fairy came to visit my grand-daughter Kaylie. She very carefully exchanged a small top tooth for a Loonie, knowing when Kaylie woke up she would be touched with Fairy Dust :)

Cheerful Flowers

Just thought I'd share the flowers we received from my parents and our friends to cheer us this weekend. Tomorrow is the one year mark that David passed away.

Last night I took advantage of stores being open late and did a bit of shopping that wasn't groceries for a change. Well, I did pick up a few food items but I needed to get things like shavers for DH, toilet paper....stuff. Anyhow, knowing DH is working night shifts for a bit I also stopped at Blockbuster to check out season sets, etc. There is a very small section where they put previously-viewed sets, so I make sure to walk by it each time I go in. I lucked out.....I was able to pick up Seasons 1&2 of Desperate Housewives. What's nice about it is that Hubby won't feel left out, since it's a show I mainly watch. He may catch the odd one but it's not really his taste in shows.
So, I'm a happy :) But by the looks of this picture, I'm in DESPERATE need of a you tell me why we can't look as glam as Gabby, Lynette, Bree and Susan??? Do they sleep with make-up on?? Is their hair always coiffed?? *sigh*

Homemade Recipe Album

This has been a very fruitful day. I managed to get a lot more LO's done for the Recipe Album I'm making for my daughters-in-law for Christmas. We had decided to make our gift exchange more than just aimlessly wander the mall to find the "perfect" gift and land up spending far too much! It's way more fulfilling too. Here are just a few I did today. I made the LO's more personal by adding pics.

Wordless Wednesday

This is Dedicated to the kindest, most compassionate Man I know. Who went to Africa and held little children, cried and prayed over them.
This is in Loving Memory of our Son David.

It's Amazing what you find...

These two pretty girlies were found by their Aunty (me of course) on I mentioned scrapbooking a recipe book for my daughters-in-law, to share recipes from myself, my Mom and Grandma to my sisters. There is a recipe to making homemade bubbles but I don't have a picture of that so Rachel suggested Goggling to find one and print it out. In my journey around the Internet I came across this pic.....amazing, hey?? And NO, Rach didn't even tell me this existed! :P

I know that places to the south of us are still experiencing a lovely Indian Summer with temps still ranging in the double digits, but here in the North we definitely are into Fall and have even had a skiff of snow, just to throw us a bit of a curve ball, just in case we are confused to what season we are really in. So, now it's official and I need not feel like I'm swearing when I mention the "Fall" word :)
So, enjoy the splendor of colored leaves, crunchy walks thru the ground leaves, crisp apples, squash, zucchini loaf, pumpkin pie, hot soup and stew, a fleece jacket, the smell of wood smoke and the warmth of a cozy home.

Oh Baby!

If this doesn't put a smile of your face, well.....

Funny Video

This is totally hilarious!!

Cheap Entertainment

I cannot believe I've just sat here for a half hour watching those goofy video clips on Facebook!! If you've never been sent one you are truly missing out. Granted some are totally stupid and ignorant but I watched a few that are just hilarious!! I'm talking about a baby that laughs hysterically when his Daddy makes a funny noise....I mean, I laughed to the point of wet drawers! And the clip of "Britain's Got Talent", of a guy who has a toy monkey who sings Michael Jackson songs. It's beyond funny! It even tickled Simon Cowel's funny bone, as one of the that's a feat!
Anyhow, laughter is good medicine and I've had my dose for today.

Needles and Knots

Hubby got home yesterday afternoon and so I was able to ask him how to do a few things I wanted to do on the computer. I was shocked when he said he doesn't know and isn't familiar enough with graphics...huh??!! Did he come crashing down from the pedestal I had him on...humph! LOL! So, for now I'm kind of stuck and will have to give up on that project. Oh well.
I decided to pull out fall/winter clothes and tuck my spring/summer clothes away. It's not really something I felt like doing but I know that if we get sunny, warmer weather it's still not going to go back to shorts/tank-top weather. I have some laundry processing just to make certain things are clean.
I've started a knitting project again and Mom offered to help me make one of those double fleece blanket/throw that are all the rage right now....the ones with the knot-tied edges. She has access to a long, big table where we can work from. I thought that may be a very fun thing to do with her. I'm thinking that I could make some Christmas and baby gifts of those. I have three nieces expecting babies right now.
I guess I won't have any problems finding indoor projects to keep me busy thru the winter :)

Savvy or Not??

There are times when I wish I were more computer savvy. I get ideas in my head and then land up spending way too much time trying to figure out how to do them. Hubby has been out-of-town working for six days, so asking him to help wasn't an option. He's really the brains I tap into when it comes to computers. So, after getting totally frustrated this morning, I was happy to get a call from him that he was on his way back into town.....I have some projects lined up for him :) He has the next two days home and a course on Sat., for the day so I need to nab him while I can. I'm thinking it may be wise to take some courses myself so I can find my way around on this beast myself, but then again....when I finally learn the tricks, they will have been labeled Dinosaurs by I may as well claim that title and make peace with the fact that some of us are just more savvy in this department than others :P

Ok, this weather is crazy!! It's overcast with those heavy gray clouds that bring snow flurries. A cold wind is blowing too, so I left the house without a coat and came out of Walmart into freezing weather. Well, the temp is 7c, but the wind has got to be closer to 2c!! Brrrrrrr!!

See????.....I finally break down and make peace with the fact that fall is here and that yesterday's rainy, chilly weather is here to stay and break down and turn on the furnace and then guess what happens??? Yup, the sun is shining today and it's relatively warm for this time of year. NOT that I'm complaining but who IS this Murphy??? Why does his law have so much power??? If I could figure that out I'd be a Trillionare, so maybe it's a good thing (I wouldn't be quite so humble then, would I?tee-hee)

I Need Warmth!

It's a rainy, chilly day out and for the first time this fall I had to break down and turn on the furnace. I'm so thankful that my brother came out and cleaned all the ducts and put in a new filter, cuz I didn't get that blast of "burnt dust" smell in my home. I've fought hard to keep the furnace from being used but now it's just too chilly. I also noticed that my lawn has started turning brown.
I went to church this morning, wearing a summer skirt with matching top and flip-flops....ok, too chilly so I suppose it's time to bring out my fall/winter wardrobe. I really hate this transition cuz I love wearing summer clothes, flip-flops and going out in shirt sleeves. I think this calls for me to be going to Grande Prairie to shop and get my wardrobe updated. I noticed this spring that I have some long-sleeved t-shirts that are ratty around the collar, some cords that I've had to stitch several times, but the seams keep pulling apart (once they start, it's like this never ending battle!!)
Well, that's for another time. Today I accomplished turning on the baby step at a time :P

Talking with the Animals

I'm sitting here listening to the birds having this animated conversation with each other. It's such a peaceful thing to listen to. I opened my front door to let the sun shine in and enjoy some lovely fall air and there was the neighbor's cat, meowing to be let in....silly thing. I tried explaining to it that this was the wrong home and I was not interested in letting it in to visit for a while. It listened to me, head cocked to the side, trying to figure out why I was being so mean. I finally had to tell it to run along. It (it's a she I think) took off in a flash and found it's own home back. I guess you might say I had some nice chats with the birds and cat this morning and that has reminded me to savor the little things that flitter thru my day :)

Seasons & Holidays

It's a gorgeous fall day. It's kind of a transitional time, since the nights really cool off and there is frost predicted in the next few nights, but yesterday I had to mow our lawn and it's still as green and growing like it's summer. The leaves are pretty much yellow and I saw swirls of them on the road and parking lots, dancing in the wind.
I walked into Walmart and the Dollar Store yesterday and couldn't help but notice that Halloween stuff is out already!! Somehow it takes me longer to transition between season's and holidays than the surprise there!
So, my way of coping with feeling like I'm always behind all the changes around me is to change my home with the seasons in the effort of getting my brain to absorb it before moving quickly into the next one. Does that work??......well, no but those who come to visit at least get the impression that I'm organized and on the for me! :)

My Humble Apologies

I have been "borrowing" photo's from Krista's Camera, giving her the credit and sending people over to check out her Blog. The more recent one is the Sand Sculpture posted yesterday. Krista has reminded me that she is the sole owner of her photos and may not be used without her permission. So sorry won't happen again.

Lest We Forget

Once again I'm "borrowing" a pic from Krista of If you have a chance go to her Blog to look at some awesome Sand Sculptures.
I want to dedicate this to the many who died on 9/11....may we never take the freedom we have for granted.

Falling Leaves

Fall weather has descended on Fort St. John area. It's a rainy day and a lot cooler that it has been. I have noticed the yellow leaves already the end of last month, but now I'm noticing that some have floated to the ground and with the rain, more and more leaves have hit the piles beneath the trees. It's sad and yet I don't seem to mind it as much as getting all that rain in August. My neighbor has fall scarecrows propped up in their yard already.....I'm not quite that into fall yet!!
I've holed up at home and have tackled some scrapbooking again, which is a great way to pass a dreary day.
The new fall schedule is kicking off and so starts up different activities and we're back into a routine of sorts. Some groups and such haven't started yet but I hear Moms talking about taxiing their kids to dance, piano lessons, etc. I think we're like the kids....too much unstructured vacation time just makes for crankiness :P

It's been a couple days since I've actually sat here to chat. Man, time goes fast(do I keep repeating myself?...ooopppsss, I claim the fifth on that one)! I spent yesterday at a painting class and though it's a very long day, I love expressing creatively thru painting. It's often a stretch and challenge for me, but it's SO worth it all when I stand back and look at each of my fellow class mate's paintings and marvel at how we went from a blank canvas to something that actually looks like something :)

Capturing Memories

Sunshine is back, making my day feel SO much happier. I guess it's rather sad that weather seems to control my moods but what can I say?? Looks like we'll get a bit of Indian summer before fall sets in for real. With a lighter mood I find I'm inspired to do some scrapbooking. I have only made a few small "Brag" albums since mid-August and decided to tackle some of the many pics I had developed of special times this past year. With that said, I'm going to get back at it.
Enjoy your day!

What is this I hear???

The hardest part is done! You've succeeded! How on earth did you do it? You set the alarm clock and got up with a smile on your lips, singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year"....and no, that wasn't just the Staples commercial you're hearing....that is actually your voice. You fix a good breakfast, get the kid's snacks ready and then turn to the bedrooms. I mean, how difficult could it be to wake the kids up today....they're excited right?? How is it that they consider your voice their alarm and are hitting the snooze button...hmpf....the little ones are all up and cheerful, eating their breakfast and jabbering away in high speed. Hate to break it to you.....teens lose their brains for a few years and they have to re-learn everything, even how to respond to being called and how to differentiate between that cheerful "Time to wake uuup" to "Wake up NOW or else!!". Finally it's up to the bedroom you stomp, rip the blankets from over their heads, pull the iPod ear-buds from their ears and yell in their ear....and they wonder what's gotten you all worked up *sigh* Time for a quick glass of juice and forget that brown lunch bag....they can't be caught eating healthy....that would never do!! The race is the car for you to taxi them to school....or the bus (even that could be a challenge because "Suzy's Mom always takes her to school when she's missed the bus, Mom!"). So, where did that smile go?? What was that "ditty" you were singing?? Hmmm!
Wait a minute......that's your home and your kids....I forgot....I have an empty nest.....I don't have to go through that every morning....Wahoo!!!

Manners, Sharing, Caring and Learning

Here we are.....the countdown to Back-to-School is in the final more sleep. I wonder how many kids are actually excited about this?? I know most parents are!! BUT there are some Mommies dreading to send their firstborn out the door to school....worried if their child will be fine.....knowing they will miss having them home. Then there are the Mommies who are sending their baby off to school. What are they going to do with all the kids in school?? It's a difficult transition and one that requires that faith to take a step into the unknown. When once Mommy was the major caregiver in that young life, now suddenly gets torn away and the teacher becomes the major caregiver. The youngsters peers influence their lives more and it feels like Mommy has lost control and thats a very scary place to be.
I'm thinking of all the Moms tomorrow morning, since I too once shared that "first day back" ripping of the apron strings. It does get easier, as all "firsts" do. You finally get a glimpse of what those first tender years of you guidance has hear your child say "Thank-you" to those in charge, to see them choose all on their own to share the swing, to see that child bend over a friend who has scraped a knee and say the same comforting words you've said to them. You see the first hesitant steps towards independence.....and that dear Mommies, is the ultimate gift you can give your child!

September, We Welcome You

Yes, already!!! We all know that the older we get, the faster time passes by. It's something we never cease to marvel at. So, I guess the lesson today is to treasure each day we are given, as a priceless gift, for if the days pass so quickly, we are bound to miss it if we don't purposefully take a moment to enjoy it.
