This is the Instructor's Painting
On a grey-prepped canvas I traced the bridge from a template, using graphite paper. I painted all the areas I wanted to have some sadow. I'll be going over the entire painting highlighting and going over the black to get just the right look.
Last night, along with mixing the oil paints to get the correct shades, I highlighted with white where I want the sun to shine thru.

It's mighty cold out there today at -28c!! Winter has hit with a vengeance but thankfully our home is cozy and warm and the smells of cinnamon, vanilla and a hint of pine sooth our senses with thoughts of the festive season just ahead.Walking outside creates crunching noises under foot and freezes the nose hairs, which makes for a very unflattering nose drip as soon as you come in from the cold :P
I have been slowly decorating my home for Christmas, so I thought I's just share some of it with you.

I found out that my niece has named her son. He has big shoes to fill because his name is Reagan Kayber Miedema....which is Celtic meaning Little King.
He is such a sweet looking little guy. He has many family members to love and adore him :)

I'm just enjoying listening to Christmas Carols playing all day long. I have decorated my home and just have to get the tree up and decorated, but that's happening tomorrow. I also picked up gifts from Sears, so I'll have gifts under the tree after setting it up :)

I went to my grandson's hockey game last eve. He was Goalie and did such an awesome job that they won!! You should have heard his cheering section :P He made such awesome saves....and I'm VERY proud of him. I love it that he's at the age where the games are so awesome to watch, rather than painfully sitting thru a game when he was younger and you just wish they had a wind-up key on their back so you could speed them up.
Afterwards, Tyson and Kaylie came for a sleepover. Popcorn, hot chocolate and snuggles...I love it. Tyson still loves to snuggle up and have me scratch his back or run my fingers thru his hair. Kaylie is my little flutter-Budgie who can only sit still enough for a hug. But I try to squeeze as many as I can into an evening. This morning was an early one and the kids were in no mood to get up....they usually go to bed far earlier but last night it was 10:00. Tyson had a hockey practice to go to though....glad it's not me having to do the taxiing anymore :P

My niece had her baby last evening.....a little boy. I'm partial to little boys, having raised three of them and now have two grandsons. The baby was a healthy 8lbs.1oz....not bad for a first baby!! I don't know his name yet but I'm certain he won't be going thru life without one :P You did good Jennifer :)

Yup, what I thought was going to leave in a day or two has moved from a horribly drippy nose to stuffed sinuses....ugh! The pressure makes even my molars hurt. I was wondering why chewing gum yesterday aft was making my teeth hurt. Nothing a Sinutab won't fix over the next day or two.
So, I hear that my niece was in labor yesterday but the baby hasn't arrived yet. Must have been a false alarm, but she is getting very impatient! She is 8 days over-due.I guess her Doc isn't going to induce until 14 days over...that's nothing new cuz I remember going 14 days over....not fun and by then you're rolling around cuz it's easier than trying to stand up :P
It's a gorgeous wintry day. I'm planning on pulling out Christmas decorations this weekend. I'm listening to C-mas music on my XM radio and loving it!I always send my C-mas cards off by Dec. 1st along with a letter but I've decided to go totally different this year. I received so many cards from fund raising groups(Cancer, Alzheimer, etc.)so I'm just adding a pic of hubby & I in it and send that off rather than make my own C-mas cards and typing up a newsletter to print out. I figured I'd start addressing envelopes this aft.

I've been hit with a double whammy...10 computer viruses and a cold virus!! I was having great difficulty with my PC and finally, in frustration decided that for my own sanity to shut it down, and it wouldn't even turn off. I waited until hubby could have a look at it for me. He uninstalled AVG and installed Avast, and that's when he discovered the 10 viruses. Obviously AVG wasn't doing the trick. At least my PC is running smoothly and quickly again.....what would I do without it now that I've gotten so addicted to it for SO many reasons.
This morning I felt the beginnings of a cold and as soon as I was up and at it my nose refused to quit running and I have a scratchy throat. I don't feel too bad and am hoping this is one of those colds that is mild and doesn't amount to anything. Well, I can wish, right? :P
I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to breathe freely again tomorrow.

Lucinda, http://catalystforsuccess.blogspot.com has tagged me. There are a few rules one must follow to play the game. When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. Then post the rules before your list, and list eight random things about yourself. At the end of the post, you must tag and link to eight other people.
1. I live in North-Eastern British Columbia, Canada
2. I am married to an amazing man for 31 years
3. I have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and 3 grandkids (2 boys, 1 girl)
4. I have never been off the North American continent
5. I have recently discovered my creative side, in scrapbooking and oil painting. It's wonderfully therapeutic
6. I have learned to treasure those whom I love.
7. I greatly enjoy working with and being around women...we are such amazing, complex creatures.
8. I would love to travel to Europe and tropical areas
Tagging seems to be a fun way to establish & nurture relationships. I'm interested in knowing 8 random facts about these people:
As I've been finding interesting Blogs along the way, I've Bookmarked them. Here are some of those I'd like to know better. Have fun!

I spent most of my day at a painting class creating this lovely Christmas candle placed in with Poinsettias. The glitter that is all over the finished painting didn't show up, but if you can, just imagine the sparkle :)

I'm still giggling at something my sis wrote on her Blog. You see, she is crocheting a hat, with ear covers and braids attached and she had her hubby try it on for size, since it's a C-mas gift for her daughter. Have you seen that new Wendy's commercial where the guy is wearing the "Wendy" red hair with braids....yup, I'm whooping at that picture in my mind ;D
Anyhow, It's been a busy day which started out having a coffee with a friend and then getting my grocery shopping done. It's always so wonderful to have well stocked pantry and fridge.
I have a painting class again tomorrow. I'm painting a Christmas candle set into poinsettias, all in reds and then the finale of glitter. I'm very excited about this painting since I've wanted to paint it since last C-mas. I'm going to be doing something totally different this time. Instead of framing it, I'm actually going to be painting it on a hard canvas that can be hung as is. Fun!
On Monday it's my parents anniversary. Some of us are meeting up with them at the Chinese Restaurant to celebrate it and I'm going to give them my Parrot Tulip painting. Since they are Dutch and have admired my paintings, I want to give them one that very meaningful to me. So, I'm just going to stick a big bow on the corner of the frame. I was going to give it to them for Christmas, but I can't wait that long.. ;P
Enjoy your weekend!

It's a lovely sunny day after a couple overcast days of snowing. It's quite mild so the snow tends to be heavy and wet, which is perfect for building a snowman :)
Not much happening in my life today, which suits me fine cuz I have cleaning to do that I didn't get around to yesterday. I also need to pop out and stock up on fresh dairy and produce.
I know....boring, but sometimes those are the best days to have. I've started another book, "Santa Cruise" by Mary Higgins Clark....easy reading and something to get me into the spirit of C-mas ;)

Outside the noise is muffled, the snow makes the world look pure and clean again. Although I don't like the bone-chilling cold, uncovering my car under mountains of snow before leaving the driveway, nor plowing thru deep snow, slush, sand on the streets.....BUT, I think the purity of snow is growing on me. I do hope it stays around for the Christmas season, only because it'll be SO much fun for the kids (and maybe some brave parents/grandparents) to slide down hills, have a good old-fashioned snowball fight...well, you get the picture :)
Enough said on that subject. The reality of being indoors on a Monday is doing my regular Monday chores. So, on that note I will go process the laundry and empty the dishwasher that has just washed a load of dirty dishes.

It's now raining out and our lovely snow has turned into slush. It's freezing rain, mind you so it will probably turn crusty out there before the day is over. Ugh! Like I said to a gal the other day....I hope it either snows or rains, not both. Well, when it snowed we were happy cuz it makes the ground solid, making it easier for Hubby to go to work. Now it's raining.....I think the rest you can imagine!

The guys taking a boat from Horse Shoe Bay, West Vancouver to the Furry Golf Club
This is a Bachelor Party so of course it would stand to reason that some prank be played on Colin...throwing him in the water seemed like a good idea :)My Hubby is looking all innocent :P
The Golf Course is located along side the coast line and boosts wonderful scenery!
After all the fresh air and exercise stopping at The Boathouse Restaurant for drinks and dinner sounded good. Colin is wearing such a stylin' hat....sort of like Cat in the Hat..LOL!

I'm talking about flu bugs!! It's hit me and thank God I'm not puking, but my tummy and bowels aren't happy :P It's a good day to be stuck at home though cuz it's snowing like crazy! This morning it was coming down hard and fast but it's now just softly snowing but it's sure getting deep! I needed to go out to pick up some meds and it's not a pretty sight on the roads....crazy!
I'm snuggling in and trying to get better.

Mmmmm....our little world is looking like Nature has put Icing all over everything. The sun is bouncing off the surface and the snow is glittering. The fresh layer has made the whole yard look like it's clean and fresh. That's my aesthetic perspective, but the reality is that I need to get out there with the shovel and dig my way out of the driveway (ok, it's not that bad, but you get the picture :P )It takes far longer to actually get going in the morning, after a snowfall....brushing off the car, scrapping windows, starting the car earlier so it warms up and then there's the traveling around town with big pick-uptrucks that feel like they own the road.
So starts a new season.

Yes, the snow is still layering everything like glistening icing on a cake. It's very pretty with the sun making it sparkle. I haven't gone out to make a snowman yet....it's really not deep enough yet.
George & I are going to help a friend move this evening so having the snow under foot may not be any help, cuz it tracks in and then makes the floor wet and slippery...yuck! I'm going thru old totes of stuff to see if I have anything I can give her, since she has lived in one room in her son & daughter-in-law's home and doesn't have much. What a lot of work though! Whew!

Guess what??? It snowed this aft and it looks like it may last. It's a bit wet so it's made the roads slick....especially at stop signs. If this doesn't melt then the trucks will layer the sand on the streets and that'll solve skidding into the intersection. Living in North-eastern BC means we're unique since we don't ever change our time. We just get shorter and shorter days(in the fall/winter). Thankfully we do get lots of sunshine when it's not snowing, so that helps keep the spirits up.
Our neighbor was out yesterday late aft and I was wondering what the heck he was hammering at. It turns out he was hanging Christmas lights. It's a good idea since it's getting mighty chilly out to be fiddling around with that, but it all seems to be leading up to Christmas in a hurry!
Well, back to doing my laundry. I got a late start on it cuz I had to go into the hospital to get blood-work done at the Lab. They have one gal sitting at the desk, punching us all into the computer and one gal doing all the blood-work and ECGs. Needless to say, I sat there with dozens of others waiting and waiting and waiting....2 1/2 hours!!!!! I bring a good book and pretend I'm not sitting in a crowded waiting room on an uncomfortable chair that is crammed so close to the next person we have to scrunch our arms tight to our sides to fit. Talk about up close and personal...and we're all fasting and have disgusting breath...oh joy :P

Well, I think I'll keep this template. I just wanted to change things up a bit....it's fun! I also wanted to have a fresh look that'll keep me upbeat thru the winter :) It seems that so many of us suffer from S.A.D., and our winters up here are rather long, so I do what I can to keep things going.
The other thing I'm going to do for myself is change my toe nail polish to a vibrant red. I just got a box of mini-polishes in glittery colors for the Christmas season, so I may as well play with them :) I don't really run around that often in bare feet in the winter but I still want to see my feet decorated for Christmas.
I got a call from Colin yesterday....what a tease he is! He cannot for the life of him keep something a secret....he HAS to tell someone! Jenny and him got my C-mas gift yesterday....apparently very nice. Yeah....and I need to know this why??...you guessed it....they are both so terrible about keeping it all to themselves so they told me they have the gift but wanted to tell their Dad what it is....stinkers!! But now I'm already getting excited and I have ALL this time to wait....I think that should be considered torture! Is there a law against that do ya think?? Hmmmm!
The sun is shining and we can dance a jig cuz there wasn't a snow fall this weekend like predicted. Mind you, now that Colin & Jenny blew it and mentioned a gift, I'm afraid I'm leaning more towards snow and C-mas carols. I heard the kids practicing for the C-mas concert this morning in church. *sigh* Maybe if I plug my ears and hum, I can hide for a bit longer. Oh darn....not working! :P

It seems like that very cold wind is bringing snow along it's wings. But so far we're not seeing any white stuff, but it's certainly overcast. Hmmm....I'm NOT saying that I'd welcome snow so much as if we get any precipitation that it be snow and not rain. Mud around here is not my fav thing :P

Here we are into a brand new month. Don't you just hear the words "Time flies by too quickly?" AND "Before you know it, it'll be Christmas?" Yeah, me to. I know that every year, once Thanksgiving and Halloween are behind us, that pretty much means Christmas is on it's heels and I never feel prepared. I'm hoping that this year, since we've decided to keep things very low-key, that I can enjoy the season without the stress of last minute gift shopping in crowded stores.
That said, there isn't even snow on the ground yet and I'm certainly not going to moan about that! It's a sunny day and all whispers of a haunted night have blown away in the very windy dark hours before dawn and we've woken to a gorgeous November 1st! Enjoy you day!
