Aging Sucks!!!

I have been telling you about the joys of Grandkids and now I want to flip to the end of the spectrum.....aging parents. It's been an ordeal for my parents the past couple of years, health wise.I've Blogged about the recent encounter Dad has had in the hospital. My Hubby's parents are quite a bit older that mine because they were older when they finally got pregnant. Hubby's Dad is 93 and Mom is 83. They have faired so much better than my parents, since Diabetes has really played it's toll on my parent's bodies. We have seen Hubby's parents declining in the past 4 years or so, but they lived in a Senior's Manor, where help was readily available. But they now need to be moved to Assisted Living and have dug in their heels and don't want to go. As heart wrenching as it is to see them leave the little apartment where they've lived independently for 18 years, we've gotten a call from the manager that Dad is wandering the halls and outdoors and recently been banging on doors at 2:30am, trying to get help...he has a strange woman in his bed...oh my, he should be so lucky :P I know, it's not a laughing matter but one has to keep a sense of humor or I'd want to die now, before my body fails me.
So, hubby, being their only child, has made a trip down to take care of matters. We're pretty certain they won't be going home after entering the hospital for an assessment and then moving over to the Care Home, so he may have to make arrangements to have all their stuff packed up and get the apartment cleaned. When I was there last Fri. it was filthy....I mean absolutely filthy, with stacks of old newspapers and mags and evidence of Mom not being able to clean anymore.
I truly hope that this all goes smoothly for their sake and for hubby's sake.

I agree with your assessment of aging, but then again I have a ways to go, being just a middling. I hope things go smoothly for your husband and his parents. It's not an easy decision, but one that must be made to provide them with a safe, healthy and supportive environment. God bless you!
