Long Weekend

Looking up the history behind Canada Day, I came across these facts:

The July 1 holiday was established by statute in 1879, under the name Dominion Day.

On October 27, 1982, July 1st which was known as "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day".

To find out more about Confederation and how the British Colonies became the country of Canada, here is a website for Kids, explaining the process. I makes for very interesting reading not only for kids, but those of us adults that have forgotten how Canada was founded.

Can you believe we've only had our red and white maple leaf Canadian flag since 1965? Before that, didn't we fly the British flag? {It's before my time, but I saw it on a vignette commercial} I wonder why we didn't incorporate any blue from the UK flag, as we didn't become fully independent of them until 1982.
