Red Hat Society

I was introduced to the Red Hat Society a few years ago through a book my girlfriend sent me for my Birthday. Now, any woman or girl can join, but there are guidelines :) If you are 50 years old and over, you wear a red or purple hat. If you are under 50 you wear a pink or mauve hat....that's it! Once a month the Care Home holds a Red Hat Tea with various fun activities along with tea and dessert. My Mom has joined some of the Ladies who love to sing and this has become the theme song:

Favorite Things
sung to the Julie Andrews tune from
"The Sound of Music"

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazine tied up with string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings --
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes break,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things --
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets, and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heat pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no fear of sinning,
Frail bones and fractures and hair that is thinning,
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things --

When the joints ache, when the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad!

I proudly wear my Red Hat :)
