My Favorite (Summer) Things

Once upon a time, when I was a girl of 1o years-old, I spent the summer reading book after book of the Bobbsey Twins and when I ran across this pic, memories came flooding back of a girlhood summer filled with days of contented reading.
On a hot summer day or evening, nothing hits the spot like an icecream cone. I can think of no other treat to cool off with.

My feet certainly love summer weather. My nicely polished toes love the freedom of flip-flops and I live in them all summer long!

Do you have favorite things exclusive to summer??? What are they???

May Long Weekend

Here we are in the long weekend of May and moving toward the end of the month already. It's now the fresh green of new leaves and the earth around my place has been totally transformed into a glorious living garden. It's pure pleasure to go walking or for a drive and see how the North has been transformed from a frigid white to a vibrant green and to see people out in their yards, planting and enjoying the sunshine. We have done the yard clean-up, mowed the grass for the first time this season and have plans to add shrubs and a larger flower bed. I a painted fresh coat on the windmill and our two porches will get a fresh coat of stain as soon as we hit another sunny weekend. I even cleaned the inside of the car out and vacuumed all the grit and dirt from the carpets and washed the mud from the mats.

Spring seems to infuse us with energy.....and that feels good!!

The warmth of the sunshine is felt so much this weekend. The digital thermometer reads around 22c. I even feel more warmth in my home, making breezes drifting in through open windows welcome. I also set up the fans to add more air flow throughout the house. The air smells fresh with hints of new plants and grass. This weekend marked the start to camping for most folks in this area since our outdoor starved souls are thirsty for every moment of sunshine and beautiful weather.

May!! We celebrate a new of seeing a fresh new life poking thru the earth, budding on trees and shrubs and watching temperatures melt the last of the piles of snow. I relish going outdoors without having to wear a jacket.
Also Mother's Day comes along and I felt the sheer joy of being a Mother to three amazing men. And then feeling the crushing sorrow of missing Mom this first Mother's Day without her.
May!! The smell of BBQ. The smell of the smoke from a campfire. The smell of a spring shower.
May!! "'Tis like the birthday of the world,
                  When earth was born in bloom;
                  The light is made of many dyes,
                  The air is all perfume:
                  There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
                  The very rainbow showers
                  Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
                  And sown the earth with flowers."
