Strange, cloudy, stormy, wet Weather we have....

Thank goodness we never have extreme weather like Irene come to our part of the country, however we have so much unsettled weather this summer as well. Yesterday afternoon a wicked thunder storm rolled in, carrying with it hail that pounded down on our roof and lingered far into the night.....making it very chilly out there.

For the first time this summer I had to run the car for a bit to clear the fogged up windows, last night before I could pull out of my girlfriend's driveway.
Strange, cloudy, wet weather!!

Let's Do Lunch

The Ladies Bible Study group I am a part of takes June, July and August off for the summer but we all agree it feels SO long to go without seeing each other. All of us are so busy during this season so having a pot-luck lunch and social time each month makes the time between seeing each other a little shorter. The best way to get to know someone is to spend time together and ask each other questions. We want to continue to develop and strengthen our connection with each other. Building trust and rapport happens gradually and over time. What better way to develop our friendships, than over food?? And what more fun than tasting each other's cooking and swapping recipes??
This month lunch was at my home. Makes for a good excuse to give the house a good clean too :P

Happy 34th Birthday Kevin!!

Last night was Kevin's Birthday Party, but today is Kevin's Birthday! Friends of Kevin & Jodie's own a Shop for their huge Wire-Line trucks, and decided to convert one truck bay into a bar, which is so totally cool. Another friend, Jeff, bakes these amazing cakes from scratch and he baked Kevin's Birthday cake. It was divine!!
Such a Handsome man :) It was great hanging out with everyone. Some played pool or fuze ball and outside there was a huge fire to hang out at.
I think everyone has a favorite meal our Mom cooks for us so our gift for Kevin was a Coupon for a Dinner and Birthday cake that I'll cook and bake for him and his family.

The sky, the sun!

The sky is the bluest-blue and the sunshine is sun shiniest-sunshine!!
We had the down-pour-est of rain yesterday in between thunder storms, so today smells fresh. Along with that the smell of freshly mowed grass wafted in on the breeze blowing into my home.
Enjoy something about today :)

Good Will Gone Bad!!

With all the Natural disasters that our world has experienced this year, we are familiar for the call to dig deep into our pockets and hearts to send Relief to those left devastated emotionally and financially in the aftermath. As a Canadian, I am proud when we can rally together and give SO generously, especially to our fellow Canadians!! I don't know about any of you, but this is CLEARLY a sickening story that makes me ashamed of our Canadian Government!! To think of all the money sent out of this country to help Relief Organizations and then to treat fellow Canadians in this manner is truly appalling!!
In this excerpt of the article run in the Canadian Press Melissa Gunning tells part of her story:

CALGARY - A heartbroken Calgary business woman admitted Wednesday that it was clothing, bedding and toys she had gathered for wildfire victims that ended up in a city landfill.

Melissa Gunning said her eco-friendly baby container business, Wean Green, started collecting items after a friend lost her home in May to the raging wildfire that destroyed a good portion of Slave Lake, Alta.

She said the public's response was overwhelming. She sent two semi-trailer loads of donated goods to Slave Lake, but when the community indicated it didn't need anymore items, she was stuck with two large storage lockers full of donations.

"It was Paul Nielsen, owner of DumpRunner Waste Systems, who spotted the donations, clearly marked for Slave Lake, in the landfill. There appeared to be a truckload worth of boxes — video games, children's clothing still on the store hangers, a crib, coats and new blankets.

"This just shook me to the core because it wasn't Uncle Bob's golf pants from the 1970's. These were random acts of kindness all packaged up and it was just thrown in the landfill. Something went horribly wrong with this distribution," Nielsen said."

So what can we do about this?? Well, I really don't have the answer to that except to make this story known. I am hoping that by this story getting to the public that it creates enough of a buzz for the public to have the opportunity to react and come up with proactive ideas so this will not happen again.

This afternoon my little Great-Niece brought over her Mommy and Aunty Samantha for tea. What a sweetheart she is and is a bundle of curiosity and motion. We had a nice visit and I realize that we just don`t do that often enough!

I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.
Audrey Hepburn
I think Audrey was on to something when she said this! I have to say, this is a characteristic my hubby holds and which drew me to him in the first place. I tend to be far too sober, but over the years I've learned to loosen up and laugh more.
I read a great article on melody-mae's blog:
"so i am telling you that smiling
not only makes you feel better
but, also you live longer!
that is quite the incentive to smile
don't you think?"

Thanks to melody-mae and her inspiring Blog I realize that although I'm weighed down with sadness, that doesn't mean I don't have a song to sing...or a smile to give.

Happy Birthday David!!

Today David would turn 30!! Graduated to a new decade :) I remember that day so very clearly...a sweet baby boy who was our Miracle. You see, David wasn't supposed to make it, but he did and was the third son born into our family. He was a precocious, adorable, dramatic boy, who made us laugh and look at the brighter side of life.
David lived to his 25th Birthday. If there was anyone who loved to celebrate his Birthday it was David. He took the day off of school or work so he could enjoy a FULL day. Now I know he celebrates every single day :)

Back-to-School inspiration!

I just came across this Blog that has some very cool posts, but this post caught my artistic eye:
In honor of the back-to-school season, we found some artistic creations by some amazingly creative and talented people. These incredible artists have left us scratching our heads; how did they pull that off?

I can't help but admire those can make such a simple object into such genius art!!

I Believe....

I came across this quote of Audrey Hepburns and cannot resist sharing it with you :)

I really love poached or basted eggs!! I never did get an egg poacher with my cookware set. Last week I went on a shopping mission to find one, but in this town with limited kitchen supply stores, I turned up with zero results. I did however find this cute little set in Walmart...a mini section with mini StarFrit pans. They look like they are made for a child's play kitchen, but, works perfectly, so who am I to argue :)

Cooking for one has never been so easy with the mini cookware collection by Starfrit !
For frying an egg or warming gravy, cooking individual portions is a breeze. Our mini cookware heats up faster and gives you the benefit of even cooking. Each piece is made of aluminum with an easy to clean non-stick surface. The riveted silicone handle stays cool and is comfortable on hand.

Surfs Up

Watching the movie "Soul Surfer" has reaffirmed what is important in life. Tragic things happen to so many people and always the question, "Why me?" comes up. Personally I have not found the answer to that question, but I know that I can always depend on what God tells me :"I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out - plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for."

Summer has finally arrived here in Fort St. John, BC. It's a warm 24c and we've spent as much time outdoors as we can. Yesterday I spent washing the car and vacuuming and cleaning the interior while Hubby mowed the lawn and trimmed. Today we pulled everything out of the shed, sorted through bins and landed up either throwing stuff away, taking it to the Salvation Army thrift store or repacking it back into the shed. Needless to say, the shed is far emptier!!
Afterwards we hopped in the car to drop off the stuff for the Salvation Army, took some stuff to the recycling depot and then picked up a well-deserved smoothy.
I love profitable days like this and I am even more thrilled to enjoy a sunny day.

B.C. Day

British Columbia Day is celebrated on the first Monday of August and is a day off for many people. Here are just a few interesting facts about our Province I found here
These are some Symbols of our Province:

The Stellar Jay
Western Red Cedar
Pacific Dogwood Blossom
Jade Mineral

The most important Symbol of BC is the Union Flag! The top part of the flag consists of a union flag with a crown in the center. These represent the colonial links with the country and monarch of the United Kingdom. The lower part of the flag consists of a setting sun on a background of blue and white waves.
As we celebrate B.C. Day, remember to celebrate what this Province means to us!
