Rainy Day

After the heat of 31c an overcast, rainy day feels almost chilly, but at the same time refreshing. The sun will be out again tomorrow.
This evening is the final Life Group get together until the Fall, so instead if a study we're having a pot luck supper. There is 13 of us, so not a huge group (on purpose) and I'm looking forward to it. I'm bringing a large Taco salad and watermelon.

Smoothy and Lilacs

It's another hot day and after doing the shopping at Walmart and Costco, we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony for a while to catch the breeze. It's always quite a big chore to put everything away after the job of shopping. We ate a later afternoon snack so I just made a nice, thick smoothy for supper. It's cold and goes down lovely!

I love Lilacs! At Costco the bushes are in bloom and the perfume is heavenly!

Doc

Yesterday I had my Endocrinologist appointment in Vancouver. Good news!! My A1C came back as 8.4, down from 9.3. Wow....talk about making me feel better about things. I really like Dr. Paty, he's a thorough, nice Doc.
After my appointment we stopped in at Walmart, Ikea and Home Depot looking for beaded curtains.....but no such luck! It was fun to do a bit of shopping, although we came out empty handed. I suppose i'll order them online if I decide I still want to get that. It was a hot, sunny day so it was nice just to be out with Hubby!

Heat!

It climbed to 29c today!! Wow!! It's like a summer day with sunshine and that smell that comes from new flowers and leaves and grass and hot pavement! It's nice to say that even tho the temps were high, it remained comfortable in this apartment. I caught the breeze thru the open balcony door and living room window and the fan on low.

May Long Weekend

It is a gorgeous, sunny day, the temps at 27c! A great day to drive out and explore a park in our community. I made a picnic lunch of Taco Salad, chips and Potato Salad. We stopped in at Walmart to buy new folding chairs and pick up a coffee from McDs.
Derby Park is located along the Fraser River, making it a great park for camping, fishing, boating, picnicking and playing.
I caught this little girl playing in this unique old tree. It was delightful to watch the kids playing and having so much fun being in the great outdoors.
There were numerous boats and sea-doos racing around on the water. We had our binoculars with us so we were able to follow and enjoy them. There were even a couple kayaks paddling around.

Honoured

Annually we take a day to honour our Moms. Both our sons live away from us now, so I got phone calls from them. So, after going to church in the morning, Hubby took me out for lunch and then mid-afternoon we went to watch the movie Going in Style.....a comedy with Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. A clean, funny movie. It was so nice walking home in the sunshine so we sat out on the balcony until the sun hid behind a cloud.

I find Mother's Dad to be rather sad though. First I miss our son David on a Day when I am reminded that he would have called me too, but is no longer with us. Secondly I miss my own Mom on a day that honours Moms.

Mothers

With Mothers Day just a few days away, there are some cute e-mails and posts going around. This one is one of my faves :)
Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?
1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Thunder

It got really hot yesterday....an unseasonable 32c out on my balcony. Since we're going into our first year here we haven't experienced Spring so I don't really know what the expect for heat in this place. I see that we are sheltered enough to get some serious heat when the sun shines on the balcony.

With the flow of heat streaming from the ocean to the Valley, we got some thunder, along with some rain in the early evening. That really cooled it down nicely and I enjoyed just sitting outside in the dark for a while. How often do I ever do that?

May

Can it be that it's already May??!! Time has a way of quickly passing by. It feels like the week just begins and suddenly it's the weekend again!
The first day of May was a very wet, rainy day. And actually pretty chilly!
Today is far warmer and the sun is shining. I have a roast beef on the oven and I am just enjoying the weather.
